Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he loved participating in various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to play some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he would play countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.

The real improvement in his skills began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access a few of the best players in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his cunning thinking skills. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL holdem.

Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. He told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
