Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
