Omaha Hi Lo: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha/8 starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some players often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in just about all poker games.
The low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
Although it seems difficult at first, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting assortment of betting options and seeing that you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, and a few shooting for the low hand.
