Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
