Wednesday, 23. July 2025
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
