Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
