Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants can get confused. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in nearly all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complex at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an amazing collection of wagering choices and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high, as well as many shooting for the low hand.
