Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
